What is a Social Search?

Social Search allows you to understand trends, conversations, and audiences around some brand, topic, or person easily and quickly, and there's no need to create a topic!

You can use Social Search to:

  • find high-level trends, see the global perspective;

  • find consumer insights - capture a better sense of what communities stand for regarding specific topics, events, emotions, and brands;

  • quickly review what's going on on the competitor's side;

  • analyze the audience for broad topics.

How Social Search works

The search is based on a 1% sample of data from all the sources YouScan monitors. It collects data from 01.09.2022.

How to use Social Search

  1. Go to the Search section from any part of the account. Type in your search query.

    ☝️ You can use all YouScan operators for your query. Learn more about the way operators work.
    Additionally, Social Search allows you to find hashtags, names with symbols like “N+”, “$PEP”, “F_low”, “1+1”, and accented letters like: á, é, í, ó, ú, ü, ñ.

    When you search for keywords with additional characters, add quotes. If there are no quotes, the system will skip the symbols, and instead of Yahoo! will find Yahoo. Search for accented letters, however, works without quotes. If the word has an accented letter, the search can be done using both accented and standard letters.

  2. Select the necessary filters. If you need to research a specific segment, you can filter results by:

    • language - you can choose from a fixed list of languages;

    • country - you can select any country;

    • source - you can choose from a fixed list of the most popular sources;

    • resource type - you can select any resource type;

    • sentiment - you can select any sentiment.

    You can include and exclude necessary filters in Social Search.

  3. Set the necessary time frame in the calendar.

    ☝️ Please note that you can select up to 01.09.2022.

Once you're done, press Search and voilà - a comprehensive analysis is there at your service.

What analytics can you get in Social Search?

Once you see the analytics provided by the Social Search, you can:

  • get a brief overview of the number of mentions, dynamics of discussions, sentiment, and sources distribution

  • study the geography of conversations with the heatmap and additional visualizations of top countries

  • identify the audience's interests, occupations, and geographical and gender distribution

  • find out what words, hashtags, and emojis were most often used when mentioning your monitored object

How to compare different searches?

Social Search also allows you to compare different brands or topics — just type keywords you'd like to compare. You can add up to 5 competitors there.

How to work with mentions?

To drill down to the specific mentions, go to the last tab with the mention stream.

Here you can sort mentions:

To proceed to the original message, click on the source name:

If you’re comparing different searches, you can switch from one to another using the dropdown menu:

☝️ Please note that the mentions you will see depend on your type of coverage. Learn more about the difference between Global and Eastern Europe coverages.

How to export data?

You can export chosen visualizations individually to share your findings with your colleagues. For now, this is the only way to export data from Social Search.
